Drawing on a line in Mary Oliver’s “Wild Geese,” “The Soft Animal of Your Body” will focus on crafting the lives of nonhuman animals and their place in the human life, mind, and sphere of concerns. The weekend will feature contributions from MFA faculty Mike Magnuson, 2014 alum Shannon Kopp, Portland stars Callum Angus (A Natural History of Transition) and Erica Berry (Oregon Book Award winner for Wolfish), and Sharon Patricia Holland (an other: a black feminist consideration of animal life), among others. You can expect talks and workshops, readings and conversations that bring lessons of craft to the topic of what novelist Richard Powers would call the “more than human.”
